Mrs. Wright's Site

Seven Basic Steps of Research:

  1. Think of your research as answering a question or set of questions.  Then decide what information you'll need to answer those questions.
  2. Decide what type of source might have that information (e.g. a library print collection, a subscription database, a periodical, a reliable online site, a personal interview, etc.)
  3. Learn how to navigate those sources to find material that's relevant to your research.  (Feel free to ask the librarian for help with this.)
  4. Read the relevant materials with the purpose of answering your research questions.
  5. Process the materials with a critical mind, recording the information and your analysis of it.
  6. Organize your research and thoughts into a form that can be presented.
  7. Give credit to your sources by including a Works Cited page in your final product.
