Seven Basic Steps of Research:
- Think of your research as answering a question or set of questions. Then decide what information you'll need to answer those questions.
- Decide what type of source might have that information (e.g. a library print collection, a subscription database, a periodical, a reliable online site, a personal interview, etc.)
- Learn how to navigate those sources to find material that's relevant to your research. (Feel free to ask the librarian for help with this.)
- Read the relevant materials with the purpose of answering your research questions.
- Process the materials with a critical mind, recording the information and your analysis of it.
- Organize your research and thoughts into a form that can be presented.
- Give credit to your sources by including a Works Cited page in your final product.
